Mission‑Driven Technology—Centering Humanity in Emerging Tech

Helping one of the world’s most trusted humanitarian organizations build shared language—and a shared north star—for AI and technology

"Kate didn't just deliver a keynote. She brought her whole authentic, artistic, collaborative spirit to the table—and it shone through to everyone, even in replay."

— Lindsay Wirthlin, Head of Agile Transformation, American Red Cross

Background

Technology powers the American Red Cross at scale, enabling critical work to move faster and reach farther. But scale can blur what matters most: the people the mission exists for, the donors who sustain it, and the teams delivering it every day. Keeping them visible in every technology decision is critical.

When the program team planned a tech-focused internal conference, they wanted a keynote that would inspire their audience and create collaborative momentum. They were also seeking an outside voice with credibility—and a cohesive, values-led experience that helped technologists feel the impact of their work.

The theme was mission-driven technology: keeping humanity centered as the conversation turned toward AI, transformation, and what comes next.

Our engagement

Kate consulted with the team throughout the planning process, ultimately delivering an opening keynote and moderating two panel sessions.

Solution

From the start, Kate approached the engagement as a collaborator and co‑creator—investing time to understand the program’s intent, the organizational context, and the stories leaders most wanted to tell. Through multiple prep sessions and shared working documents, panelists aligned early and arrived ready to build on one another’s ideas.

The keynote was built on that foundation: a message designed to connect the entirety of the technology organization to the human outcomes that can be enabled—grounding the conversation in purpose instead of hype.

Kate then carried the keynote’s core ideas into the panel sessions, translating concepts into practical, audience-relevant insights and helping panelists communicate with clarity and confidence.

One line from the morning took on a life of its own:

“Build the scaffolding, earn the height.”

Results

Kate’s keynote and moderated sessions were recognized as standout elements of the event. Participants left with shared language—and a clearer path forward for making all technology, including AI, more human-centered, values-driven, and mission-aligned. For many attendees, that reframe was exactly what they needed.

It’s time to create a human-centric strategy for a change-filled future.
